To earn the Astronomy merit badge, a Scout must explore the night sky by identifying constellations, notable stars, and celestial events such as meteor showers. They also learn about the impact of space activities on Earth, including the life cycle of stars, nebulae, and the Milky Way galaxy. Typically, Scouts must locate at least 10 constellations and several bright stars, and they may be required to sketch celestial objects as part of their studies.
